OUR HISTORY

On August 22, 2007, the doors to CRAVE opened in the unsuspecting town of Ansonia, in the lower Naugatuck Valley.

Crave’s cuisine is best described as an eclectic Caribbean fusion. The food is not fancy – just home cooked goodness.

Crave was born in Libby’s mind years before it actually got built. It took her chef, Fabian Delgado, and Libby a year to get it ready. They both had full time jobs, would get out of work, and dream up Crave until late into the night. In 2001, for no particular reason, the landlord for Libby’s boutique approached her about renting the storefront adjacent to it.

Crave found its perfect location in one of the oldest Opera houses in Connecticut. It was built in the late 1800’s, and its unique setting added the allure of what’s been called “a gem in a small town”. There were few restaurants in the area (save for pizza & Chinese), and Libby saw a place to fulfill a lifelong dream. And why not Ansonia? ~ Doesn’t every town deserve a delicious restaurant with great ambiance?

The dishes have been reviewed as an eclectic feast for the taste buds, comfort food in a stylish setting, and darling and delicious.

Crave takes pride in preparing every item on the menu from scratch. The wait staff, with their full knowledge of the menu, enjoy serving their guests with warm and attentive yet not overbearing service. They are here to please and try to accommodate all special requests whenever possible.

Libby is excited to have you be her next guest, and is looking forward to your next visit.

Libby Meissner, a native of Puerto Rico, moved to Buffalo, NY at the age of 16. Over the years she traveled a lot, from South Florida to Utah to Wyoming over to Idaho down to Texas, and finally rested her weary soul in Connecticut.

She worked in many different restaurants with varied flavors: From diners to fine dining, Greek to French, and even an upscale American steakhouse.

In the year 2000 she opened Only for Her, the ladies boutique adjacent to Crave.

However, when the opportunity arose, Libby started Crave to get back to her one true passion: food.

She decided on Caribbean fusion because of her Puerto Rican roots, and because the food is so flavorful. She’s been told that it was very daring to open a “trendy” place in a town that’s a bit conservative, but she doesn’t really see it that way. Every town needs “a gem”.
